With Australia Day just one more sleep away, the WordStorm office has been talking about what makes us love our country so much.
After almost a week of watching Oprah rave about Oz, we all found ourselves feeling a wee bit prouder than usual.
Watching her last show on Sunday played right to our heart strings with that dazzler of a finale. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it here: Oprah says goodbye.
Of course, there are the obvious food icons: Vegemite, Tim Tams, lamingtons, Milo and the trusty meat pie. But what do we really love about Australia?
We’re in awe of the fact we can see every landscape imaginable without leaving our own soil: beaches, desert, mountains, snow, you name it we’ve got it. Then there are our natural wonders – Uluru, Kakadu, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Twelve Apostles – all simply stunning.
We love when we meet fellow Aussies overseas – who we’ve never laid eyes on before – they become our best mates.
And obviously there is our laid-back lifestyle and our funny way of abbreviating everything and whacking an ’o’ or ’ie’ on the end of it. (Is Johnno coming to the barbie?!)
And there’s our mateship. We always band together when we need it most: in celebration, remembrance, national highs and lows, the Aussie spirit can’t be beat.
God, we’re beaming with pride – happy Australia Day all!
