Today I’m gonna talk about timing and when is the best time to get your story in the media.
My answer to that is well when do you want to start achieving amazing credibility that’s given to you by the power of being in the media? When do you want to stand head and shoulders above your competitors? And I guess the answer to that is there is no time like the present. And particularly throughout this Christmas period, there’s no time like the present.
A lot of people think this isn’t the best time to talk to journos because everyone’s going on holidays. But I would say the opposite. While people are taking a couple of days off or weeks off they’ve actually got more time to enjoy the media. There’s more time to sit at a cafe and enjoy leafing through the supplements in the Sunday papers or that magazine you really love to read. Or even perhaps at home on your sofa watching some current affair programs on TV. And at this time a lot of main journos are on holidays which is leaving skeleton staff in the office who are literally scratching around for stories to put to air or to put into their media outlets. On top of this TV programs are in their low ratings season or no ratings season meaning that they will accept more stories than they normally would and put a whole range of different stories on air because they’re not competing against the ratings of the other networks.
Despite this you still get the great exposure from being on a TV program and you are still able to say forever more as seen in this program or that program on the home page of your website which really gives you that instant credibility when people land on your website. And it really does help you stand out from your competitors.
So I would say in the lead up to Christmas which is you know next week, think about the stories that you can pitch to journos this week or even in the week of Christmas and you know don’t just sit back on your laurels and think the year is over. Take advantage of this period to get some mass media exposure. I hope I’ve inspired you to give you that last little push in the lead up to the festive season. Take care and see you next time.
